Periods or menstrual cycles are natural biological changes occurring in the human body. When the egg released from the ovary in the females does not get fertilized with a sperm, the blood is released from their body containing the uterine tissues and other elements. This cycle continues for 5 days in a month and the cycle repeats itself after 28 days. Due to some or other reasons if this time interval of 28 days is increased or decreased we call it as irregular periods, late period or missed period.

As mentioned earlier periods is a natural phenomenon so sometimes the time gap may vary due to various factors like climatic conditions, stress, pregnancy so on.

But herein we will discuss the conditions when to see the gynaecology doctors regarding your missed periods.

Medications – Certain medications like anti – epileptic and anti – psychotic drugs can also cause irregular periods.

Polycystic ovary syndrome –  One of the most common causes of  irregular periods is polycystic ovary syndrome

Stress – The stress  hormone can always affect the menstrual cycle as the obstetrics and gynaecology doctors say.
